Second Only to Grant: Quartermaster General Montgomery C. Meigs
Published in Hardcover by White Mane Publishing Co. (January, 2001)
Average review score:

The Life and Times of General Montgomery C. Meigs
Long overdueThis is an excellent biography of one of the most important -- although most overlooked and underrated -- members of the Union high command in the Civil War. Montgomery Meigs was, quite literally, second only to U. S. Grant in importance, in that he was the genius who kept the supplies moving up front. He also had outstanding pre- and post-war careers as engineer-architect. A most amazing (though not particularly attractive) man, whose life and works are splendidly described in a well-written, fascinating book. Civil War buffs owe Miller many thanks.

Gate of the Tigers
Published in Hardcover by Viking Press (March, 1992)
Average review score:

Well written, exceedinly authentic and gripping.I found this book to be very well written with a strong plot and exceptional character development. The author creates an autoritative view of Tokyo, U.S- Japanese relations and Japanese culture. I'm waiting for his next book . This title was published in 1992 under a pseudo name and I'm wondering if the author has published other works under a different name.

The Growth of the Constitution in the Federal Convention of 1787: An Effort to Trace the Origin and Development of Each Separate Clause
Published in Hardcover by Fred B Rothman & Co (November, 1987)
Average review score:

A WONERFUL LOOK AT THE CREATION OF THE CONSTITUTIONFOR ANYONE WHO WANTS TO FULLY UNDERSTAND THE CREATION OF OUR CONSTITUTION THIS IS THE BOOK TO READ. WILLIAM MEGIS MAKES THIS HISTORY COME ALIVE. IT IS TRULY EASY TO READ AND UNDERSTAND. HIS MANNER OF WRITING IS OUTSTANDING IN THAT IT IS NOT JUST A DRY REPORT OF WHAT HAPPENED WHEN MADISON AND HIS ASSOCIATES SAT DOWN TO A VERY DIFFICULT TASK. IT IS VERY INTERESTING HOW THE DIFFERENT ARTICLES,SECTIONS, AND CLAUSES WERE HASHED AROUND BACK AND FORTH AND HOW COMPROMISE PREVAILED........

Mary Meigs Atwater Recipe Book for Weavers
Published in Textbook Binding by Wheelwright Pr Ltd (June, 1975)
Average review score:

Shuttle Craft Guild Recipe BookThis series of loose leaf folios is extreamly rare and almost never seen complete. This particular offering is the entire series - I thru VII - still in the envelpe that it was originally mailed in. The envelope has seen better days, but the pages of the folios are in excellent condition. 117 one sided pages in total.
This offering covers many topics in weaving from coverlets to clothing to rugs. It would make an excellent basis for a Guild study group or for someone wishing to outfit their entire home (& self) in handwoven cloth.

A Monograph of the Work of Mellor, Meigs & Howe
Published in Hardcover by Architectural Book Pub Co (01 April, 2000)
Average review score:

Illustrative GrandureThis monograph has good text and lots of photographic images for anyone who loves period houses. What sets it apart from other books of its kind is the inclusion of pages of detailed drawings by the architects. The illustrations are absolutely magnificant and very educational for those interested in how these intricate works went from the minds of the architects to actual built works of enduring beauty. A very good book.

Moon Song
Published in Library Binding by William Morrow (September, 1990)
Average review score:

The moon captured in poetryMoon Song has been my favorite childhood book since, oh, I don't know, kindergarten. I was drawn to the beautiful illustrations (my favorite being the zodiac picture that says nothing, but is worth a thousand words). Also the beauty of the writing, and the mysterious line that repeats about every other page: "Only the moon man knows". The book is set in a child's dream. I truly reccomend this book for a young child's bedtime story or for someone seaching for their "inner child". It brings memories of the days when everyday could be spent basking in the moon man's net "fashioned of moonbeams three".

Tenure Track
Published in Paperback by Briarwood Pubns (March, 2002)
Average review score:

Witty and engagingJoe Meigs's first novel is a wonderful satire about one man's quest for tenure in the English department of a small, Southern college. I suspect that the book is more than a little autobiographical.
Reminds me of this quote from Joseph Romm: "He spoke with the wisdom that can only come from experience, like a guy who went blind because he looked at a solar eclipse without one of those boxes with a pinhole in it and now goes around the country speaking at high schools about the dangers of looking at a solar eclipse without one of those boxes with a pinhole in it."
Overall, well worth reading, especially if you've spent any amount of time at a university (either attending or teaching).

The Windy Hill
Published in Hardcover by MacMillan Pub Co (June, 1921)
Average review score:

LOVE & FORGIVENESS THRU A CHILD'S EYESThe story of two children who come to spend a summer with a single uncle and unravel a lot of family history thru brilliant storytelling and help in restoring a broken relationship between the uncle and his cousin. Thru the eyes of a young boy, however the story is for girls and boys alike as my 10-yr old daughter did not want it to end. The ending is not sugar-coated, but shows plainly the sometimes painful consequences of hurtful actions when a wayward cousin, although forgiven by his loving cousins, cannot be forget and forgive himself. It is a beautifully written book full of the children's adventures and a great mystery which unfolds chapter by chapter.

Ultimate Game Design: Building Game Worlds
Published in Paperback by McGraw-Hill Osborne Media (27 May, 2003)
Average review score:

Very helpful becauseI really liked the interviews with the game creators at Blizzard/Lucas/Sony and all. The sections on learning how to make up behavior helped out alot. Now I feel like, I'm armed now to take on the industry and it was an easy read with great payoff.
Awesome new games bookI really recommend to this book everyone I meet that is interested in how games get made or if you want to make games yourself. As for me, I want to be a game artist. Every section has useful items that I haven't found anywhere else. If you want to take game seriously - this book can help you out. The reference section alone is a goldmine.
Perfect for anyone with a big interest in gamesI'm trying to get started in games and have bought many books to help me out, but this one is by far my favorite. Once I got it, I could jump right to chapters that answered many of the questions I had been wondering about. I like sports games and so all of the stuff on building fast games was useful to me. I think anybody getting going in games will want to use this book alot.

Competent Accounting EducationBeing a teacher, I find this book is very useful for beiggners as well as for teachers. Basically, In my opinion, accounting can never be understood without concept and principles. This book satisfies all the basic requirements of learners. This book is written in simple and useful business enviornment. It depicts all the concepts and attracts it`s users. The accounting treatments are stated in a simple way. One should can easily understand the basic purpose of financial and manegerial accounting. Really this book is remarkable!! I found this book is very useful. I have not words in my mind to describe it`s actual utility. But one thing is that there is a lack of problems in few chapters, if that could also be included then I am assure that the major problem of practice should be solved. This book described in a simple way, How the accounting performs as the "Language of Business".
Excellence of Accounting EducationI find this is one of best textbooks available in the market. I love reading it very much.
review accountingIt is a very good book but there is no solution for the problems
General Montgomery Meigs to life. Through his incredibly detailed work, the life and times of this gifted builder,
architect and general become chrystallized in the reader's mind.
The number of personal letters included in this volume are nothing short of remarkable. The inclusion of so many portions of personal letters from the mid-1800s allows the reader to share directly the thought processes of Meigs, his supporters and his detractors. The copious footnotes are outstanding as well. Not to mention the great photos.
In a sense, this is a textbook as well as a biographical work.
I am very impressed. Thank you,!!!
Signed, A distant relative of the Quartermaster General
